Economic Diversification: Models & Strategies for Florida’s Rural Communities

Rural communities are often dependent on one or a limited few industries or institutions for the majority of their jobs. Layoffs due to hard times or other corporate decisions can have a crippling effect on area residents and locales.

Local economies that are diversified reduce vulnerabilities to unexpected developments. They also gain opportunities for economic growth … more variety of job choices … and greater ability to meet the needs of local consumers.

This session features experts on how to diversify — and thereby bolster — local economies through strategies in economic development, tourism and agriculture. The presenters are:

• Bill Stanton – Director, Jackson County Development Council & Vice Chair, Florida Economic Development Council (FEDC)

• Kevin McGeever — Director of Content Management, Visit Florida

• Hank Scott – President & General Manager, Long & Scott Farms

Don’t miss this powerful combination of strategies, practices and real world case studies from Florida communities.

First Meeting will be February 13, 2014  ~  2:00 – 3:45 PM.
