Disaster Recovery:
Returning Home After a Hurricane
Be careful when you first return home after a disaster. Make sure your family is safe by following these simple steps:
- Inspect your home from the outside to see whether it is safe to enter.
- Before you go inside, make sure that all electricity and gas are turned off. Tturn off the main switch and all electrical circuits.
- Remove all furniture, bedding and floor coverings. Take them outside to be cleaned and dried. While you should try to protect them from the rain, they must not be brought indoors again until they are thoroughly dry. If they are still wet, they will mildew.
